Our current family of ‘off the shelf’ DCDC power converters include water and air-cooled designs, power levels from 800W to 1,780W, and can be uni- or bi-directional in operation. Further bespoke voltage and power levels can be accommodated and manufactured for customers on request.

Motorsport has always been seen as a testing ground for new automotive technologies, feeding advanced developments back into mainstream road cars. CO2 targets for road cars are mandating increased levels of efficiency, requiring widespread adoption of hybridisation and full electrification technologies for all vehicles.

To be relevant to the adoption of these technologies, motorsport must also reflect this change, leading the way with new materials, topologies, and software control methodologies.

Zytek has been designing DCDC converters for a wide variety of applications for many years, from integrated devices (where the unit is combined into either the battery or inverter) to standalone devices.

DCDC converters are required for all vehicles with a zero-emission operating mode, from gasoline hybrids (part-time zero-emission) to pure electric vehicles (full-time zero emission).

DCDC converters can be uni-directional (simpler construction, usually applied to electric vehicles) and bi-directional (more complex construction, usually found in hybrid vehicles).

They can also be used where there are two high voltage power sources in a vehicle, e.g., fuel cell hybrids, to align both sources to a single DC bus for the main electric drive system. These devices are usually much higher power than the 12V units, capable of converting 100’s of kWs on a continuous basis.

Due to the high efficiency of our designs, passive cooling is possible in some applications, others require very low levels of liquid coolant to be used.

No, we also have air-cooled options, such as:

  • Our 1200-12V DCDC unit is air-cooled if the unit is placed somewhere that air can flow over the cooling fins. A phase-shifted full-bridge DCDC topology has been employed to achieve high efficiency with passive air cooling.
  • Our 48V/12V Bi-directional DC/DC-converter is also naturally cooled.

Yes, we do have IP67 rated units available, such as the 1200-12V DCDC.
